Bio of Thunder Bear
Thunder Bear was born and raised in the Outaouais region of the Province of Quebec near Ottawa.
In his adolescence, Thunder Bear was made aware, by his Mother, of their Indigenous Heritage. Thereafter, they sought together to know more and better understand why he didn't grow up over there
in, 'the Land Where the Partridge Drums,' in Akwesasne. It was later that Thunder Bear learned that his Onkwehonwe family had gone through many hardships of separations and stolen childhoods. In reconnecting with his community, Thunder Bear received many gifts. He met the indigenous Elders from
his and neighbouring communities. His spiritual teachings became instilled and answers were found. He finally understood why he felt the many ways that he did. It all came together! Today, Thunder Bear serves his Elders and is a 'Keeper of Medicines'.
Speaking Synopsis
In 2015, members of The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada presented 94 Calls to Action to which the federal government is directly or jointly accountable for 76 of them.  Thunder Bear will be discussing his views and witnessing of reconciliation. He will note opinions about establishing and maintaining a mutually respectful relationship between Aboriginals and non-Aboriginal people of Turtle Island/Canada, to create equity and equality, closing the gaps. There is political will required, joint leadership, trust-building, accountability and transparency, as well as a substantial investment of resources.
