Compassion

A simple experience working as a supermarket cashier becomes a meaningful lesson in compassion, presence, and connection. Rather than focusing only on moving people through the checkout line as quickly as possible, the author learns that the experience of the people in the line, and her own experience, matters more.

By shifting her attention from efficiency to genuine connection, she discovers that small acts of love, such as a smile, a shared laugh, a helping hand, or simply truly seeing another person, can transform an ordinary moment.
